The Iolcus was an ancient city of Thessaly and home of Jason. From there the Argonaut Campaign began to seek out the Golden Fleece.

The usurper king Pelia assigned Jason the mission, hoping he would not return. Iolkos symbolizes the beginning of the heroic journey and the test of royal legitimacy.
